We have a wide curriculum working within the framework of the new Curriculum for Wales.
In addition to delivering extended core subjects of English, Maths and Science we offer subjects such as History and Geography and are happy to facilitate learning that motivates our students.
We are fully trained in Story Massage and offer a sensory curriculum to our learners with complex needs.
Why is hospital teaching so important?
It provides a sense of normality, intellectual stimulation and helps alleviate anxiety associated with hospital stays.
By supporting education in hospital we help these children maintain their academic progress, keeping their future aspirations alive.
Our person centred approach to learning using a child’s motivating factors for learning also lies at the heart of the new curriculum for Wales.
In her 2017 paper, Dr Tara Porter of the Royal Free Hospital states that “it is real life which helps kids to get better” or perhaps more accurately “makes them want to get better.”
“Schools play a significant role in children’s social, emotional and intellectual well-being. For children with medical complexity (CMC) and chronic disease diagnoses (CDD), an absence from school due to prolonged hospitalisation places them at risk for greater social exclusion and poorer academic outcomes than their healthy counterparts.”
